What will your family legacy look like in 50 years?

This is a portrait of my family in 1965, my grand mother scurried to find a photographer to capture the moment my Uncle Richard came home from the Navy to visit. She saw the importance of preserving her family's memories, because back then you never knew if your children would come home from the war at all. She wasn't worried about the way she looked, she saw this moment as an investment. It is very rare that we purchase something today that will be worth more to us tomorrow. It is very rare that we buy something that causes the emotions a photograph brings.
I believe photography is important because people are important. It is a moment that we can never go back on, your legacy, family history. Half of these family members are no longer living, including my mom. The little boy on my grandpas lap is my Uncle Royal who died of brain cancer in 2011, he never had any children but his name lives on thru my son, who I named him after. Having these portraits mean the world to me because how can you tell a story without any images?. |
