Today will mark the one year anniversary of the moms death. She passed away on her birthday and she would have been 69 today. Not one day goes by that I don’t look at her photos. When I was planning her memorial, I realized that I didn't have any portraits of my mom by herself. Sure, we had a few snapshots with our phones while she was cooking or hanging out, but not a professional one. She always made sure I took portraits of the grand-kids every year, so she would have them, but I regret not making her take one of herself. I mean, I’m the professional, why wouldn't I have her jump in for a few shots with the kids. She always told me, "No no, it’s ok take one of the kids. "Im not dressed" or I have no makeup on.
Well guess what I don't care what you look like, I just want to see you. We used a screenshot photo from her cellphone for her memorial photo. I beat myself up for not having her take a nice portrait, my mom was so beautiful. Therefore, I try so hard to educate everyone on the importance of portraits, heirloom items and our legacy. When we pass on, what are we leaving our family, our children and grandchildren. The only thing that is important is seeing a portrait of our loved ones, not money, jewelry, or clothing. I've written about this time and time again, and I understand we all get busy. Make the time. Make the Investment. You won't regret it. It's your Legacy.
